CONCORD, NC — The Concord Fire Marshal’s Office is trying to determine what sparked a small fire Wednesday afternoon inside Concord Mills that forced the mall to be evacuated and closed for the rest of the night.

The fire happened just before 4:30pm inside a small corridor near Off Broadway Shoes. The City of Concord Fire Department says they extinguished the fire in less than 10 minutes.

The mall’s sprinkler system was activated and helped contain the fire to a small confined area, officials say, until crews could arrive. No one was injured, but mall officials say there was water and smoke damage which forced them to close for the remainder of the night as a precaution.

The mall reopened Thursday for normal operating hours. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
