Novant Health: ‘Keep the Beat’ Saving Lives In Mecklenburg County

More than 350,000 people in the U.S. experience sudden cardiac arrest outside of a hospital setting each year, according to the American Heart Association.

Quick intervention and bystander CPR can double or triple a person’s chance of survival. To raise awareness of this important issue and save lives locally, Mecklenburg EMS Agency, Novant Health and Atrium have joined forces to develop Keep the Beat, a new initiative aimed at empowering bystanders to perform CPR. Dr. Gary Niess, Service Line Physician Executive for Novant Health’s Heart & Vascular Institute and one of the program leads, he tells you what you need to know.
