Funeral Arrangements Announced For Ardrey Kell Student Killed In Double Homicide

CHARLOTTE, NC — Funeral arrangements for 15-year-old Jenna Hewitt, killed during a double homicide over the weekend, were announced on Wednesday.

Hewitt, a sophmore at Ardrey Kell High School and an Ontario, Canada native, will be laid to rest on Friday, March 1st.

According to her obituary, family will greet friends from 3:30-4:45pm at Harrison United Methodist Church located at 15008 Lancaster Highway in Pineville. There will be a public reception following the service.

Hewitt’s burial will be private.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools tweeted earlier today that students and staff at Ardrey Kell will wear black on Friday “to show solidarity during this difficult time.”

Funeral arrangements have also been announced for the second victim of Sunday’s deadly shooting, 51-year-old Matthew Chaplin. Services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, March 2ndΒ at Weddington United Methodist Church located at 13901 Providence Road in Weddington.

Hewitt and Chaplin were both shot and killed around 3am Sunday morning when police say John Bocek forced his way into Chaplin’s Glen Abbey Way home. Hewitt was at the home visiting Chaplin’s 16-year-old daughter Kate when the crime occurred.

Kate, who police say had some type of prior relationship with Bocek, managed to escape after the shooting and ran next door to call 911.

Bocek later died from injuries he sustained from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
