STATESVILLE, NC — Iredell County Sheriff’s deputies have charged a homeless man in connection to a church break-in over the weekend.
The crime was reported Saturday at the Bright Light Baptist Church on Trinity Road. The caller told deputies he heard running in the hallways when he entered the church and then saw two suspects running through the cemetery.
Deputies say they were soon able to locate two suspects matching the descriptions.
One suspect was a 12-year-old boy, and the second was identified as 19-year-old Jonathan Ridgeway. Ridgeway reportedly tried to run from deputies while being questioned, and was taken into custody.
Officials say they did locate items stolen from the church while searching the two suspects.
Ridgeway is charged with Felony Breaking and Entering a Place of Worship, Felony Larceny After Breaking and Entering, Misdemeanor Resisting a Public Officer and Misdemeanor Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.
The 12-year-old will be charged through Juvenile Services, according to officials.
