Thousands Expected To Pack Uptown For The CIAA

CHARLOTTE, NC. —  Another big basketball weekend in Charlotte!  Thousands expected to pack Uptown for the CIAA games, parties and events.

The CIAA tournament has been one of the largest annual events in Charlotte for more than a dozen years. With more than 100,000 people expected to descend on Uptown this weekend, fans are pumped.

Although the rain kept many out of Uptown on Friday, expect larger crowds on Saturday.

Officials say there will be heavy traffic around Uptown, especially near Spectrum Center and the Convention Center. Remember, you can’t park on Church, Tryon and College Streets this weekend.

Many not just coming for the basketball games, but the parties. Hip Hop artist 2 Chainz will perform at the convention center as part of fan fest Super Saturday.

CMPD warning about unsanctioned parties and problems they’ve caused in past years.

“Some promoters aren’t very scrupulous and take advantage of the opportunity to have people in the city and they don’t get their plans vetted as well. We have had issues,” say CMPD Chief Kerr Putney.
