Woman Accused Of Giving Alcohol To Minors In York County Now Facing Involuntary Manslaughter Charge In Teen’s Death

YORK, S.C. — A York County woman is now facing an involuntary manslaughter charge after authorities say a teen was found dead after consuming alcohol provided by the woman.

Kelly Hedrick, 28, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and three counts of giving alcohol to a minor.

The York County Coroner’s Office responded to a home on Chapman Circle in Rock Hill on December 27, 2018 to investigate the death of 16-year-old Shelby Brakefield.

The preliminary investigation found three teenage girls were provided and consumed alcohol prior to the teen’s death, according to a news release.

Hedrick was originally charged with providing the alcohol to the teens.
