Is Kylie Jenner ‘Self-Made?’

Forbes says Kylie Jenner is officially the world’s youngest ‘self-made’ billionaire, which has lots of people saying: ‘Wait, isn’t she from a rich and famous family?’

Jenner dethroned Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg as the youngest person to reach billionaire-status.
He was 23-years-old at the time.
Jenner is 21 and she is the sole owner of Kylie Cosmetics; the company is valued at at least $900 million dollars.
Forbes says the young tycoon also makes money from brand partnerships and from ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians.’

Many people on Twitter were not having it.
One person wrote: ‘Kylie Jenner is not a self-made billionaire her family was already worth millions and incredibly famous. All she did was leverage her fame, fortune and family name.’
Another person tweeted: ‘I’m sure Kylie Jenner works hard, but she is not ‘self-made’ and we should all stop comparing our successes in our fields to the successes of people who come from wealthy, connected families cos the playing field is at 90 degrees”

Forbes addressed a similar backlash last year, when it named Kylie to its list of the world’s richest self-made women in the US.
The magazine released a statement: ‘To be clear, Forbes defines self-made as someone who built a company or established a fortune on her own, rather than inheriting some or all of it.’
At the time, Forbes said it had a scale to judge how ‘self-made’ a business person is.
Someone who was born poor like Oprah would score a 10, while someone who has family wealth like Kylie would get a score of 7.
