Taylor Swift Explains Why She Turned Off Comments On Her IG Posts
Taylor Swift says she doesn’t need negative noise in her life. That’s why she doesn’t allow comments on any of her social media posts.
Taylor turns 30 later this year, and to celebrate the milestone birthday, she opened up in the new issue of Elle magazine. She wrote a deeply personal essay called “30 Things I Learned Before Turning 30”. Taylor talks about juggling her massive success and maintaining her mental health. She says that turning off the comments on her posts has helped her “block some of the noise”.
“Social media can be great, but it can also inundate your brain with images of what you aren’t, how you’re failing, or who is in a cooler locale than you at any given moment,” Swift wrote. “I’m showing my friends and fans updates on my life, but I’m training my brain to not need the validation.”
Taylor may have a point. Research shows that age groups who use social media the most also have higher rates of anxiety and depression. And whether you are a celebrity or not, social media often creates an unrealistic expectation of how you should be living your life. Experts say we look for validation from the people looking at our posts.
So what do you think? Would you use social media if no one could like or comment on your posts?
