Police Release Name Of Man Killed In Southwest Charlotte Accident

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department released the name of a man killed in a single vehicle accident in southwest Charlotte.

The accident happened in the area of S. Tryon Street and Nevada Boulevard. Police say they responded to the wreck just after 9:30pm on March 7th.

Barry Sims, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Police say he was driving his 1992 Ford Mustang on S. Tryon Street when he traveled off the roadway, striking a raised concrete curb.

Police say the vehicle then went down an embankment approximately 200 feet before overturning and striking a utility pole.

Sims was reportedly wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and test results are pending to see if he consumed alcohol prior to the crash, according to a news release.  Police do not believe speed was a factory.
