Police: Shots Fired During Road Rage Incident On Independence Boulevard

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say they arrested a man for firing shots into a woman’s vehicle following a road rage incident on Independence Boulevard.

Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were called to Independence Boulevard just after 9am on March 13th after a woman said someone shot at her vehicle.

The victim told officers she accidentally entered the lane of travel being used by a red Chevrolet Cruz.  Police say the driver of the Chevrolet, Nassir Derrell, discharged a firearm at the woman’s vehicle, striking the vehicle.

Derrell then fled the scene, according to a news release.  Police say they were able to identify Derrell as the suspect and he was taken into custody a short time later.

After being interview, police say Derrell was transported to the Mecklenburg County Jail and charged with one count of discharging a firearm into occupied property and shooting in the city limits.
