Prosecutors Won’t Seek Death Penalty For Conover Man Accused Of Shooting Woman And Killing Her Son

Prosecutors announced Monday they will not seek the death penalty for Scott Putnam who is accused of shooting a woman and killing her son in July of 2018.

Putnam is charged with the First Degree Murder of Anthony Killian. He is additionally charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill in connection to the shooting of Roxanne Killian during the same incident.

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A man is dead and his mother is in serious condition after they were shot in their Conover home late Monday night.

Catawba County Sheriff Deputies were called around 10:15 p.m. to Curlee Drive where they found a 24-year-old male and his mother suffering from gunshot wounds.

Officials say they were shot by Scott Anthony Putnam.

The son died as a result of the shooting and his mother was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital where she is in critical condition.

Putnam is charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Putnam was taken into custody around 10am Wednesday morning.
