BURKE COUNTY, NC — A man wanted on felony warrants related to vehicle theft crimes in Burke and McDowell Counties has been arrested.
Tyler South was taken into custody after an hour long standoff Friday at a Cobb Avenue home near Lake James. South was reportedly tracked to the area following a vehicle chase with the NCSHP on March 8th that ended in a crash and his escape on foot.
South is charged with (F) Flee to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, (F) Larceny of Motor Vehicle, (F) Trafficking in Methamphetamine, (F) Trafficking in Heroin, (F) Possession Marijuana, (F) Possession Stolen Motor Vehicle, (M) Possession Drug Paraphernalia, (M) Failure to Appear (2 counts), (M) Speeding, (M) Aggressive Driving, (M) Hit/Run Fail Stop Property Damage (2 counts), (M) Expired Registration Card/Tag, (M) DWLR Impaired and (M) Expired Registration Card/Tag.
South had recently been placed on the Burke County Most Wanted list, according to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, after detectives issued felony arrest warrants related to a March 6th vehicle theft. Deputies say he was also wanted on warrants for a similar crime in McDowell County.
An additional suspect, Krystal Johnson, was also arrested at the home on Friday.
Deputies say Johnson faces charges related to the possession of methamphetamine and marijuana, and was served an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in district court.
