Victim Of Alexander County House Fire Identified

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a residential fire that left one person dead and seriously injured another in Alexander County on Tuesday afternoon.

On March 26th, 2019, at about 5:30 p.m., the Stony Point, Hiddenite, and Wittenburg Fire Departments along with the Alexander County EMS responded to a residential fire on Marvin Church Road in the Stony Point Community.

Officials say David Gaines was in a wheelchair and died in the fire.

Mr. Gaines’ wife sustained second and third degree burns trying to remove him from the house. She was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for treatment.
