The CMPD says officers responded to a shooting in the 5100 block of Central Avenue at 10:28 a.m. Officers located two male victims who had been shot.
MEDIC took both victims to Atrium health, one with life threatening injuries.
Winterfield Elementary was put on lockdown as a precaution for a short period of time until officers determined there was no threat to the students or school.
The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it develops.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two people have been taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life threatening injuries after a shooting in east Charlotte, according to MEDIC.
The CMPD says the shooting happened shortly after 10 a.m. and police have shut down the 5100 block of Central Avenue. It is unclear at this time what led to the shooting.
