Statesville Police Investigating Accident That Critically Injured Two Drivers

STATESVILLE, NC — Police are investigating an accident that happened early Monday morning and left two seriously injured.

The accident happened shortly after 5am on Garner Bagnal Boulevard between Shelton Avenue and Rickert Street.

Police say Yonnah Daye, 42, was driving a 2012 Chrysler 300 when she crossed the center line and hit a 1996 Ford Mustang head-on. The Mustang was being driven by 47-year-old Guillermo Arreola.

According to officials, both drivers had to be removed from their vehicles by rescue crews and were taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Statesville Police say Daye is currently listed in critical condition. Arreola was airlifted to CMC and is listed in serious but stable condition, police say.

Investigators are still trying to determine why Daye’s vehicle entered into oncoming traffic. Check back for updates.
