College Students & Community Activists Gathered To Protest The Growing Violence In Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC. —  A group of college students and community activists gathered to protest the growing violence in Charlotte. We’ve had 34 homicides in the city so far this year. Dozens of UNC Charlotte students showed up to Romare Bearden Park for the event.

Leaders from the Charlotte NAACP asked UNC Charlotte students and the community to come together to help find a solution.

CMPD tells WCCB there have been 321 assault with a deadly weapon cases involving a firearm so far this year. 55 more than this time last year.

One of the latest victims of senseless gun violence, 27-year-old Charlotte mother Kendal Crank.

She was shot and killed in crossfire while driving on East 28th street during rush hour last Thursday. A veteran CMPD officer shot and killed 27-year-old Danquirs Franklin last week, after fast food restaurant employees in west Charlotte said he threatened them with a gun.

“All the talking we’re doing has to stop, we need some real concrete changes, some tangible changes,” says NAACP Charlotte President Corine Mack.
