Auburn Gymnast From Huntersville Undergoes Successful Surgery After Suffering Gruesome Injuries During Floor Routine

In a tweet, Auburn coach Jeff Graba said that Cerio dislocated, and tore multiple ligaments, in both knees.  Graba said Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery Monday afternoon and labeled it an “extreme success”.

Graba said that Cerio was in good spirits following her surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.

We are all sending our best wishes to Huntersville native Samantha Cerio, who dislocated both knees and broke both legs while competing for the Auburn gymnastics team.

Cerio, an aerospace engineering major who attended South Iredell High School, was in her senior season at Auburn and was an All-SEC performer in 2017 and 2018, as well as a 2016 All-Freshman Team selection.

She was also recently named an SEC co-scholar athlete of the year, according to the Auburn Tigers Athletics website.

According to a post on Cerio’s Instagram account, she is retiring from gymnastics.
