Escaped Randolph Correctional Center Inmate Apprehended

Grady York was apprehended by Randolph County Sheriff’s Deupties around 12:29 p.m., on Wednesday, in Staley, North Carolina.

Authorities say York received a ride from an unknowing citizen and knocked on the door of a residence in Staley, approximately 17 miles away from Randolph Correctional Center.

The homeowners called authorities, who took York into custody.

Officials say York will be moved to a higher custody facility and face charges for his escape.

The 49-year-old inmate was serving 15 years and five months as a habitual felon for convictions on charges of larceny, breaking and entering and other property crimes.  York was admitted to prison on May 8th, 2014 and was scheduled for release on Sept. 11th, 2023.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped from the Randolph Correctional Center on April 17th.

Grady York was discovered missing from the facility in Asheboro around 9am this morning.  He is a 49-year-old white male, 5-foot-8, 173lbs with blonde hair and blue eyes.  Officials say he is originally from Randolph County, although he has ties to Montgomery County.

Officials say how he escaped the facility is under investigation.
