CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is pleased to announce that Preston Browder of Charlotte has been nominated as a candidate for LLS’s 2019 Man of the Year.
Candidates across the county will form powerful fundraising teams and compete in honor of two local children who are blood cancer survivors to raise the most funds for blood cancer research. Browder, Johnson & Johnson, is one of an elite group of community and business leaders who will compete for the titles of LLS’s Man & Woman of the Year. The prestigious fundraising campaign embodies the idea that any individual can have an impact on cancer cures with hard work and dedication.
Browder became involved with LLS after losing one of his best friends, Brandon Stewart, to Multiple Myeloma in 2017. He and his team are raising money not only to contribute to future funding for cures, but also to establish a research grant in Brandon’s name.
As a candidate, Browder will raise funds for a world without blood cancers between March 21 st and June 1 st, 2019. The man and woman candidates who raise the most funds during the 10 week campaign will be awarded the titles North Carolina Man & Woman of the Year at a Grand Finale on June 1 st at the Charlotte Convention Center. The local winners are then entered into the competition for National Man & Woman of the Year titles.
“What happens between the kickoff and the Grand Finale is the heart of the race,” says Helena Scott, LLS’s North Carolina – Charlotte Chapter Area Director. “Throughout the 10 weeks, each candidate will host events and motivate their networks to raise money for blood cancer research. The man and woman who raise the most money will be named as the local Man & Woman of the Year and go on to compete for national honors.”
