Troopers: Man Trying To Get Directions From DOT Mower Hit And Killed On I-85 In West Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Troopers are investigating after a man was hit and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 85. The accident was reported just after 9:30am near the Glenwood Drive exit in west Charlotte.
Troopers say the man was traveling from Inman, South Carolina to New York with his wife. The couple reportedly got lost and the man pulled over.
At some point, Troopers say the man tried to get a Department of Transportation worker who was mowing to help him with directions. While trying to track down the mower, Troopers say the man ran across the interstate but the worker had already moved further up the road. The man was hit and killed when he tried to run back to his vehicle, according to Troopers.
The man was pronounced dead on the scene. His name has not been released at this time but Troopers say he was 82-years-old. Several lanes were shut down as Troopers investigated.
