Officials Still Investigating Cause Of Warehouse Fire In Statesville

STATESVILLE, N.C. — Officials are still trying to determine the cause of a warehouse fire in Statesville.

Firefighters were called to the FCX building in reference to a fire on April 29th.  The building is on West Front Street and was currently being used for storage, according to a news release.

It took more than 50 firefighters to contain the blaze.  The fire was under control within two hours.  Firefighters returned on Tuesday morning to soak down hotspots that remained.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) determined the site was not a threat and it was not considered unusually hazardous from the smoke and run-off from firefighting efforts.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), along with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the Statesville Police Department, is assisting the Statesville Fire Department in determining the origin and cause of the fire.

An Iredell County building official determined that the area of the building damaged most severely by the fire was unsafe, so operations in that part of the building have been discontinued.  The property was turned back over to the property owner who had no insurance on the building.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the Acting Deputy Fire Marshal Maury Jenkins at 704-832-3877.
