Newton Police Department says the body found near a N. Rankin Avenue business on March 11th has been identified as 49-year-old Gary Johnson.
Johnson was reported missing on December 3rd. He was last seen on November 30th.
Police say the North Carolina State Crime Laboratory made the positive identification through DNA analysis. Officials say they do not suspect foul play at this time.
Toxicology results from Johnson’s autopsy are still pending.

NEWTON, NC — Police are investigating after a dead body was found late Monday afternoon.
The body was found just after 5pm near a business on N. Rankin Avenue. Police say they are still trying to verify the person’s identity and determine a cause of death at this time.
