CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools says a gun was found Wednesday on Cotswold Elementary School’s campus.
Officials say the gun was not loaded, and no students or staff were harmed or threatened. Officials have not released any additional information on how the gun ended up on campus.
The following Connect Ed message was sent to parents regarding the incident:
Good afternoon Cotswold Elementary families. This is Principal Hash calling to provide you with information regarding an incident at our school. Administration received a report that a weapon was on our campus. Law Enforcement was immediately notified, and this matter was investigated with school administration. During the investigation, a firearm was found and did not contain ammunition. No students or staff were harmed or threatened. It is a serious violation to bring weapons onto a school campus. Any student violating the CMS Code of Student Conduct will receive appropriate disciplinary action. It is my goal to provide a safe environment for teaching and learning. If a student is aware of a weapon on our campus or any school campus, I ask that they tell a school employee immediately. Please have a conversation with your student about making sure they are not bringing inappropriate items to school. I appreciate your support of our school and our students.
The investigation is ongoing.
