Panthers Announce Signing Five Of Their Seven 2019 Draft Picks

CHARLOTTE, NC — The Carolina Panthers have signed five of their seven 2019 draft choices, the club announced Thursday.

The team has signed quarterback Will Grier (3rd round), linebacker/defensive end Christian Miller (4th round), running back Jordan Scarlett (5th round), offensive tackle Dennis Daley (6th round) and wide receiver Terry Godwin (7th round).

Grier was selected by the Panthers with the 100th overall pick out of West Virginia. He played two seasons at West Virginia after beginning his career at the University of Florida. In 2018, Grier finished fourth in voting for the Heisman Trophy after passing for 3,864 yards, ninth most among NCAA quarterbacks, and 37 touchdowns, fifth most. He finished the season ranked second in the country with 351.3 average passing yards per game. Despite playing just two seasons at West Virginia, Grier ranks second in school history in career touchdown passes (71), third in passing yards (7,354) and fourth in completions (516). A native of Charlotte, Grier was a high school standout at Davidson Day School.

Miller played four years at the Alabama prior to being selected by the Panthers with the 115th overall pick. In 2018, Miller totaled 36 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and led the Crimson Tide with 12 quarterback hurries. In his 28 career games played in college, Miller recorded 58 tackles, 11.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss. He is originally from Columbia, S.C. and played at Spring Valley High School.

Scarlett, who played collegiately at Florida, was selected by the Panthers with the 154th overall pick. In 2018, Scarlett tallied 776 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 31 carries. While at Florida, he played in 36 games with 21 starts, and totaled 1,846 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns.

Daley was selected by Carolina with the 212th overall pick. Daley, 6-6 and 325 pounds, played two seasons at South Carolina after transferring from Georgia Military College (Milledgeville, Ga.), where he earned junior college first team All-America honors. At South Carolina, he started 23 of 24 games and provided protection for the Gamecocks to rank fourth in the SEC in total passing yards in 2018. Daley is a Columbia, S.C. native and played at Ridge View High School.

Godwin, who played collegiately at Georgia, was the 237th overall pick. During his four-year career as a Bulldog, Godwin tallied 1,800 receiving yards and 11 receiving touchdowns on 134 receptions. In 2016, Godwin was named the Bowl Most Valuable Player.

The Panthers also signed four undrafted rookies: safety Corrion Ballard (Utah), running back Elijah Holyfield (Georgia), wide receiver Damion Jeanpiere, Jr. (Nicholls State) and linebacker Jordan Kunaszyk (Cal).
