New Details Released in Killing of Mooresville Police Officer
MOORESVILLE, N.C. – We now know Officer Jordan Sheldon pulled over Michael Aldana for Suspicion of a Suspended Driver’s License. It’s the first time Mooresville Police have said what led to the deadly traffic stop.
It happened just after 10:00pm on May 4th on West Plaza Drive.
The investigation found Aldana fired a semi-automatic handgun, killing Officer Sheldon as he was reviewing documents by Aldana’s car.
Afterwards the suspect drove home to an apartment complex where he was found dead.
Investigators believe he shot himself.
Investigators say they could not determine a specific motive or provocation for the shooting.
But they say interviews with a former girlfirend revealed Aldana had made recent comments about killing himself and in the process killing a police officer.
The shooting left people heartbroken in the Mooresville community.
For days, people left flowers and notes by Officer Sheldon’s patrol SUV.
Thousands gathered for a tribute to him in downtown Mooresville.
A procession carried Officer Sheldon’s body from his funeral back to the Mooresville Police Department.
