SWAT Situation In Southwest Charlotte Lasts Nine Hours Before Suspect Surrenders
Police say they arrested the man who barricaded himself inside a southwest Charlotte apartment building for nine hours.
The SWAT team took Luis Pineda-Acheta into custody Thursday evening. Police say he had outstanding warrants for his arrest for multiple charges including kidnapping, strangulation, and assault on a female regarding a domestic violence assault that took place on May 21st.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team initially attempted to make contact with Pineda-Acheta but were unsuccessful. Members of the SWAT Team and Negotiators were activated and responded to the scene. As a precaution, officers relocated nearby residents.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say a SWAT situation is still underway in southwest Charlotte after a man barricaded himself when officers tried to serve him with a warrant. Dozens of patrol vehicles can be seen on Sharon Road West at the Aurea Station Apartments.
Police have been on the scene for several hours and are asking the public to avoid the area. Police have not released the name of the suspect at this time. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
