CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Detectives with CMPD’s Robbery Unit have charged Kenneth Massey, 28, with committing a series of armed robberies. From May 20th to May 22nd, Massey committed 5 robberies in Charlotte who fled the scene in a red 4 door vehicle after each incident – later identified as ared Ford Fusion. This led detectives to develop probable cause to believe Massey committed each of these robberies and warrants for 4 counts of armed robbery and 1 count of attempted armed robbery were obtained for his arrest.
After getting a hit on the suspect’s license plate on Beatties Ford Road near I-85 Sunday evening, a Metro Division patrol officer attempted a traffic stop. Massey refused to stop forcing a pursuit with additional CMPD officers and the helicopter unit.
The pursuit continued onto I-85 southbound, through Gaston County and into Cherokee County, SC. Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol joined the pursuit on I-85 in Gaffney who used stop sticks on the suspect vehicle disabling its tires and bringing the car to a stop and Kenneth Massey was taken into custody.
