CMPD: Driver Killed After Running Stop Sign And Colliding With Vehicle Near CLT Airport

CHARLOTTE, NC — A driver was killed Sunday night after police say he ran a stop sign in west Charlotte and was hit by another vehicle. Investigators say Juan Montalvo, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened shortly after 10:00 p.m. at the intersection of West Boulevard and Airport Drive.

Montalvo reportedly ran the stop sign while traveling southeast on Airport Drive and was hit in the driver side door by a 2012 Ford Fusion traveling southwest on West Boulevard. Police say the Xterra overturned during the crash and Montalvo was partially ejected.

Montalvo was not wearing a seat belt, according to CMPD, and is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol. Toxicology results are pending.

The driver of the Fusion was not injured.

Speed is not believed to be a factor in this accident. The investigation is ongoing.
