CHARLOTTE, NC — Most children cannot wait for school to be out in June. However, for some parents, when school is out for summer, they worry about where their children will get breakfast or lunch.
This summer, more than 50 local Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) will provide breakfast and lunch to feed hungry children in our community. The CMS Lunch Express will serve areas where it is difficult for students to get to a school feeding site.
Some sites begin their summer feeding programs on Wednesday, June 12.

The Summer Food Service Program provides nutritious meals at no cost to help children in low-income areas get the nutrition they need to learn, play and grow throughout the summer months when they are out of school.
CMS’s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered through the NC Department of Public Instruction. CMS is reimbursed for the cost of the meals served to eligible children. Children 1-18 receive meals at no cost through the program and all meals meet nutrition standards based on federal guidelines.
