Domestic Violence Suspect Now Wanted For Murder After Woman Found Dead In Lancaster County

Derrick McIlwain, 41, is now wanted for the murder of 36-year-old Kimberly Alger.

She was found dead on May 29th near the back deck of a vacant home on Spirit Road in the Rich Hill Community.  Detectives obtained a murder warrant for McIlwain’s arrest on Monday, June 3rd.

McIlwain was previously wanted for a separate domestic violence incident involving Alger.

“It is urgent that McIlwain be located and taken into custody on these charges,” said Sheriff Barry Faile. “We encourage anyone with information on McIlwain’s movements, activities, or whereabouts to contact us immediately.

McIlwain is known to possess firearms and should be considered armed and dangerous, according to a news release.  Deputies say he drives a 2006 Nissan Altima which could have a paper tag or South Carolina tag 8690LF.

Authorities are asking the public to call 911 immediately if anyone sees McIlwain or his vehicle.

Deputies are searching for 41-year-old Derrick McIlwain.  He is wanted on an outstanding domestic violence arrest warrant and a shoplifting warrant.  The victim listed in the domestic violence arrest warrant is 36-year-old Kimberly Alger.  She was found dead on May 29th near the back deck of a vacant home on Spirit Road in the Rich Hill Community.

HEATH SPRINGS, S.C. — The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman who was found dead outside a vacant home Tuesday afternoon.

The body of 36-year-old Kimberly Alger was reportedly found around 3pm near steps leading to the back deck of a vacant Spirit Road home in the Rich Hill Community. Investigators say the circumstances of her death appear suspicious.

When and how Alger died has not yet been determined, but investigators say an autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.

“Although we cannot release any other details at this time, we do have promising information we are pursuing and hope to have answers soon,” said Sheriff Barry Faile. “We are investigating this as a homicide and will continue down that path pending the autopsy results.”
