CHARLOTTE, NC – A rookie police officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has been charged with DWI and speeding in excess of 100 miles per hour. CMPD says they were contacted by the Pineville Police Department shortly after the officer’s arrest.
They say CMPD probationary Police Officer Jonathan Knapp was stopped on I-485 around 2:33am after being clocked at 114mph in a 70mph zone. Following the stop, Pineville Police say they determined Knapp was also driving while impaired.
Knapp, 23, has been charged with DWI and Speeding.
Officials with CMPD say Knapp was recommended for termination, placed on unpaid administrative leave and scheduled for a pre-termination hearing following the charges.
Knapp was hired on October 22, 2018, officials say, and assigned to patrol as a probationary police officer in the Metro Division. CMPD says all officers are placed on a one-year probationary period after being sworn in.
