Man Charged With Setting Fire At Cabarrus County Courthouse

CONCORD, NC — The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office has charged a man they say set fire to the county courthouse in Concord on June 4th. Brock Karriker, 32, is charged with Burning a Public Building, Injury to Real Property and Misdemeanor Larceny. 

The incident happened around 2:20pm on Wednesday at the Cabarrus County Courthouse on Union Street S. Officials say security officers found a large amount of smoke coming from the office of a probation officer on the bottom floor and called the City of Concord Fire Department.

Crews were able to safely evacuate the building and extinguish the fire. The Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire was a result of “suspicious activity.”

Investigators with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office were able to identify Karriker as a suspect in the case and issued warrants for his arrest.

Officials say the courthouse suffered roughly $25,000 in damages.
