Newton Police, Fire Investigating Overnight Arson

NEWTON, NC — Newton Police and Fire are investigating an arson they say happened at a home shortly after midnight.

The fire happened around 12:06 a.m. at a home on E. 26th Street. Officials say the fire started in a back bedroom of the home, which was unoccupied at the time.

All of the home’s services had been disconnected prior to the fire, investigators say, including the electricity. The home has been declared a total loss.
