CMPD Officer Charged With Simple Assault

CHARLOTTE, NC — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says one of their officers has been charged with simple assault in connection to an incident that occurred over the weekend.

Officer Alex Milhazes has been on unpaid administrative leave since February 5th, police say, due to an unrelated Internal Affairs investigation. On Sunday, police say a woman reported that Milhazes, who identified himself as a security officer for an apartment complex on Lucy Jane Lane, pushed her and slammed a gate on her ankle during an altercation at the complex’s pool.

Police say the victim appeared before a magistrate judge and a criminal summons was issued on Milhazes.

CMPD is now conducting a separate internal investigation, officials say, to determine whether Milhazes violated any department policies or procedures. This is standard procedure for any officer accused of a crime.
