DENVER, NC — The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says one person has been charged after a shooting that took place in a local business Thursday afternoon.
Officials say Emery McQuiller, 39, was upset by a previous incident between himself and the owner when he came to the business and started shooting at employees with a 9mm pistol through an open door. McQuiller then reportedly entered the business and fired another shot inside.
The owner, Paul Roach, returned fire with a shotgun, officials say, causing McQuiller to take off.
The suspect tried to escape and dispose of his firearm in a wooded area behind the Safari Miles Restaurant, officials say, but was later located and taken into custody without incident.
McQuiller did receive a minor injury, according to deputies, which resulted from the gunfire. He was taken to Atrium Health Lincoln and treated for small pellet wounds to his face and neck.
No other injuries were reported.
McQuiller is charged with six counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with the Intent to Kill, and one count each of Shooting Into Occupied Property and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
