Valedictorian Calls Out Teacher & School Staff During Her Graduation Speech
A San Diego, California high school’s class of 2019 will probably remember their valedictorian’s commencement address long after graduation day.
It started off like a typical graduation speech.
The teen thanked her parents and a few teachers she thought helped her achieve success, but then things took a turn when she started calling out her guidance counselor and the school’s office staff.
“To the staff in the main office, thank you for teaching me how to be resourceful. Your negligence to inform me of several scholarships until the day before they were due potentially caused me to miss out on thousands of dollars,” the teen said.
She added, “to my counselor, thanks for teaching me how to fend for myself. You were always unavailable to my parents and I, despite appointments.”
The teen also said the counselor had ‘absolutely no role’ in her achievements.
Yet, her most startling slam might have been for the unnamed teacher she accused of drinking on the job.
“To the teacher who was regularly intoxicated during class this year. Thank you for using yourself as an example to teach students about the dangers of alcoholism.
Being escorted by police out of school left a lasting impression,” the teen said.
The girl’s school called the her speech inappropriate and says it wasn’t approved ahead of time.
Meanwhile, she says that she hopes her speech encourages others to speak up in the future.
