Hornets Prepare For NBA Draft
Hornets Have 12th Overall Pick In NBA Draft
The 2019 NBA Draft tips off this Thursday night. Will the Hornets trade up, trade down, trade out or stay put with their 12th overall pick?
Plenty of scenarios when it comes to this year’s NBA draft, but ready or not, here it comes.
The Hornets are not slowing down when it comes to preparation.
On Tuesday, 12 more prospects are scheduled to audition in front of general manager Mitch Kupchak when the team holds two predraft workouts.
When it comes to his draft philosophy, Kupchak says he won’t be drafting for need. The Hornets aren’t able to go after a specific position with the status of several current players up in the air.
“Well, we’re not exactly sure what are needs are at this time,” Kupchak said. “That’s probably a great leading question for somebody, because we have a couple of free agents that we’re not going to know a whole lot about until the free agent period begins. So it’s hard to say what our needs are.”
The NBA Draft is on June 20th, while free agency begins on June 30th.
Kupchak remains optimistic that the Hornets can win with their 12th overall draft pick.
“I’d like to be in a position to pick the best available player,” he says. “I’m hopeful that when it’s time to draft, that it will be a clear cut decision and we just take the best player.”
Buzz City will be keeping its fingers crossed.
