Three Inmates Charged with Assault on Detention Officers

Lincolnton, NC – Three inmates in the Lincoln County Detention Center have been charged with assaulting four officers.

Around 930pm June 22nd, inmate Larry Wade Stanley, Jr. was acting unruly and refused to go back to his cell. As officers were physically moving Stanley to his cell, two other inmates, Thomas McDonald and Dustin Ensley, got behind the officers and began assaulting them.

Sheriff Bill Beam described the assault that left one officer with a concussion and another with stitches as “savage”.

Four detention officers sustained injuries to their face, head and arms and where transported to the hospital.

Sheriff’s deputies and Lincolnton Police were dispatched to the detention center but officers had regained control and put everyone back in their cell by the time they arrived.

Larry Wade Stanley, Jr., 43, of Lincolnton, NC was charged with felony attempted first degree murder, assault by strangulation, four felony counts of assault inflicting serious injury on a law enforcement officer and conspiracy.

Thomas Utah McDonald, 24, of Denver, NC and Dustin Logan Ensley, 29, of Lincolnton, NC were charged with four felony count of assault inflicting serious injury on a law enforcement officer and conspiracy.
