Police Identify Woman Hit, Killed By Vehicle In University City

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police have identified the woman who died Thursday morning following a pedestrian involved accident in north Charlotte.

The incident happened around 9:00 a.m. on June 20th on University City Boulevard near IKEA. Officials say 53-year-old Barbara Coleman was found unresponsive in the roadway and taken to CMC with life threatening injuries.

She was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police say Coleman was hit by a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer, which was found stopped several feet away from where the incident occurred.

According to witnesses, Coleman did not appear to be paying attention when she walked out into the lane where the Trailblazer was traveling. As a result, police say she was hit by the right front quarter panel of the vehicle.

Investigators say speed and alcohol are not a factor for the driver.

The area where the incident occurred is at a T-intersection, which CMPD says is not controlled by a stop light and is not marked or controlled for pedestrian crossing.

Police say the crash remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
