Panthers Owner Making Moves To Bring MLS To The Queen City
CHARLOTTE, NC. — Panthers owner David Tepper is making moves to bring a Major League Soccer team to the Queen City. The billionaire businessman is reportedly making his pitch to MLS next month. Sources tell WCCB it’s long from a done deal.
A source tells WCCB–MLS wants Tepper– his money and his NFL contacts. But they don’t want to play at Bank of America Stadium. The source says the Major League Soccer organization wants him to build a new stadium, but Tepper won’t budge.
From day one, Tepper has had soccer on his mind.
Sports Illustrated reports the league is planning to add three more teams. SI also reports MLS officials toured Bank of America Stadium in February, and Panthers reps have made multiple trips to New York to meet with the MLS commissioner.
