More Than A Dozen Smash & Grab Car Break-Ins At South Charlotte Hotel

CHARLOTTE, NC. — More than a dozen smash and grab car break-ins at a South Charlotte hotel. The suspect is on the run with a stolen gun.

WCCB talked to a woman who has been staying at the Four Points Hotel on Woodlawn road for the past week.  Her mother visited her on Wednesday.

“She called me, and said that her car window got busted.”

Her mother’s car was one of 14 that police say also had the windows smashed. The police report says it happened sometime between 2pm  Wednesday and around 6am Thursday.

“I know my mom, she had a box of old jewelry from her mom she was going to take to a jewelers, and it got stolen.”

The police report says one of the many things stolen from the cars–a handgun. CMPD says suspects often target vehicles looking for weapons, and has talked to us bout the crime of opportunity several times over the past year.

“Those weapons may wind up being used for some type of violent crime, or they may end up being used in the gun trade or gun sales,” says Captain Cecil Brisbon with CMPD.

The hotel is not commenting, but the manager told WCCB they recently purchased a new security system and gave video from the time of the break-ins to CMPD.
