CMPD Identifies Pedestrian Hit And Killed By Light Rail Train In North Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The CMPD has identified a man they say died after being hit by the light rail train in north Charlotte overnight.

The accident happened just after midnight at the light rail crossing at the intersection of University Pointe Boulevard and North Tryon Street. Police say Marty Lee Parrott, III, 27, was crossing the tracks when he was hit by the Light Rail Train traveling north.

Parrott was taken to CMC and later died from his injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Investigators say the crossing bars, warning lights and audible warning signals in the area were functioning properly at the time of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
