New Head Coach For Checkers
Ryan Warsofsky To Lead Defending Calder Cup Champions
The Charlotte Checkers will look to defend their title with a new, but familiar bench boss.
Ryan Warsofsky has been promoted to head coach. He served as an assistant last season on the Checkers’ Calder Cup Championship winning team.
Warsofsky replaces Mike Vellucci, who accepted a position as head coach of the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on June 28.
The 31-year-old becomes the youngest head coach in franchise history, the youngest active head coach in the AHL and is the youngest head coach hired in the league since 2000.
