Police Arrest Teen Serial Break-In Suspect Also Accused of Attempted Rape

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –  A serial break-in suspect, terrorizing people in Charlotte is locked up again tonight, now accused of trying to rape a woman.

He’s only 17-years-old, yet Deeshun Dade has more than a dozen mugshots on the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s website.

Police say he tried to rape a woman after breaking into a home on Briarhill Drive in East Charlotte on June 27th.

CMPD Captain Rob Dance says police used DNA evidence to arrest him on Wednesday.

“Want the community to know that these cases, we don’t get in and let them sit on the desk, they’re being worked constantly,” Dance said at a news conference.

Investigators suspect Dade is also responsible for a string of five similar break-ins back in May.

WCCB Charlotte tracked down several victims, all too afraid to go on camera. On Purser Drive, a 16-year-old boy says he and his mom woke up to the sound of someone breaking in. The boy says he grabbed a knife and chased the suspect out the back door.

On Finchley Drive, a woman says she woke up to find the suspect in her bedroom. She screamed and he ran away.

Dade has been in and out of the Mecklenburg County Jail over the past two years. Prior arrests include stealing a car, hit and run, and assault with a deadly weapon.

CMPD Chief Kerr Putney continues to say he’s concerned about violent offenders getting out.

“The issue right now, just to be quite frank is it’s almost like the arrest history is not as important as I think it should be,” Putney says.
