Luke Kuechly Still In “Timeout”

Panthers To Hold Luke Kuechly And Cam Newton Out Of Preseason Opener
Before Panthers head coach Ron Rivera officially announced that Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly would not play in Thursday’s preseason opener against the Chicago Bears, the starting middle linebacker met with the media.
When asked if he would play, Kuechly put on his best poker face, then smiled and said, “Remains to be seen. I hope so. I hope they put me in there. I’ve been in timeout for a little while, but I’m good.”
Apparently, Kuechly is still in timeout as the Panthers continue to be extra cautious. Timeout, however, is better than the protocol.

Despite being held out of several practices last week, the star linebacker confirmed that he was not in the concussion protocol.

“I know what you guys are going to ask. My head is good. I wasn’t in the protocol,” Kuechly said. “Like coach has said the last few times, I just got rolled up weird and they said ‘Alright, you gotta sit out, Luke,’ and you gotta listen to what they say. I practiced the last few days. Everything is fine. I just got hit weird on the side, but it’s all good.”

Jermaine Carter is expected to start in Kuechly’s place at middle linebacker. Kyle Allen will start at quarterback when the Panthers open up preseason play against the Bears in Chicago on Thursday night.
