Abbeville Superintendent, Former South Pointe HS Student Killed In Chester County Accident

CHESTER COUNTY, SC — Troopers say a Newberry College football player and the Superintendent for Abbeville County School District were both killed in a head-on collision Thursday evening.

Dr. Betty Jo Hall, 58, of Abbeville and Savion White, 18, of Rock Hill were identified as the victims Friday morning by the Chester County Coroner’s Office.

Troopers say White, a former student at South Pointe High School in Rock Hill and current football player for the Newberry Wolves, was traveling to Newberry College when he collided head-on with Hall on Highway 72 near Carter Road around 6pm Thursday.

Both White and Hall, who was currently serving as the Superintendent for the Abbeville County School District, died in the collision.

Officials say both victims were seat belted. It is unclear what led to the accident.

The Abbeville County School District posted the following message to their Facebook page regarding Hall’s death:

Dear ACSD Family, It is with great sadness to inform you that our beloved superintendent, Dr. Betty Jo Hall, used the wings she earned on this earth to soar to be with our Lord, her Heavenly Father, shortly after 6:00 PM last night. Please be in prayer for her husband, Wally, and her brother and sister and extended family.
