Teen Charged In Connection To June Shelby Homicide

SHELBY, NC — Shelby Police have arrested and charged a suspect in connection to a deadly shooting that happened on June 13th.

Malik Jones, 16, was charged Monday, police say, with First Degree Murder and Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Property. Police say Jones is currently incarcerated at the Cleveland County Detention Center on unrelated crimes.

Police say Artist Daeahun Torrence, 19, was found with a gunshot wound around 2:13 p.m. on Thursday, June 13th at a home on Melrose Drive. He was taken to Atrium Health Cleveland for treatment, officials say, but later pronounced dead from injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation, and police say additional charges are possible.
