CHARLOTTE, NC — The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office says they will be providing security checks at all Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools beginning Monday, August 26th.
The checks are part of increased security measures being implemented this school year, which were announced by the district earlier this month. The MCSO says deputies will visit school campuses throughout the day and after hours to assist School Resource Officers and trained staff in keeping schools safe.
According to a release from the MCSO, “Sheriff McFadden feels that safety is the responsibility of everyone. A multi-layer approach to security ensures that all agencies are working to achieve the same goal. The additional safety measure also demonstrates Sheriff McFadden’s commitment to improving safety in our community.”
The Sheriff’s Office also launched a social media campaign on Thursday, which features Back to School safety tips. You can get those tips by following the MCSO on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram @MeckSheriff.
