‘Good Morning America’ Host Lara Spencer Apologizes for Prince George Ballet Joke

Good Morning America host Lara Spencer is under fire for what she said about Prince George taking ballet classes.

Spencer apologized on social media, but a lot of people say it’s not enough, and that she should also say she’s sorry Monday morning on GMA. They are angry that Spencer appeared to mock the Prince George on Thursday morning during a segment on the young royal’s school curriculum.

“The future king of England will be putting down the Play Dough to take on religious studies, computer programming, poetry and ballet among other things,” Spencer said, as the studio audience and her co-hosts laughed.

“Prince William says George absolutely loves ballet,” Spencer added, “I have news for you, Prince William, we’ll see how long that lasts.”

People are now blasting Spencer on Twitter and Instagram, using #BoysDanceToo. And several celebrities are speaking out, like Rosie O’Donnell and “Dancing with the Stars” veteran Derek Hough.

“Laura Spencer, really, laughing at boys who take ballet?” O’Donnell said in a video posted to Twitter. “It’s ridiculous. It’s like bullying on national TV.”

Hough wrote on Instagram, “For a brief moment it brought up old unpleasant memories of being mocked and laughed at for being a boy who danced.”

Spencer issued a mea culpa on Instagram, writing: “My sincere apologies for an insensitive comment I made in pop news yesterday. From ballet to anything one wants to explore in life, I say GO FOR IT. I fully believe we should all be free to pursue our passions. Go climb your mountain-and love every minute of it.”

So do you think Lara Spencer crossed the line?
