Cam Newton Returns To Practice Field
Panthers QB Back On His Feet, Back On The Practice Field After Injury
Kelli Bartik has the latest on Cam Newton after the Panthers starting quarterback comes back from his latest (foot) injury.
Cam Newton returned to the practice field on Monday morning. His first time on the field since suffering a foot sprain in last week’s preseason game against the Patriots. The Panthers remain cautiously optimistic that QB1 will be back in time for the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams.
When it comes to Newton’s teammates, there is no lack of confidence that he’ll be ready. “I don’t think it’s up in the air,” Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith grinned. “Our quarterback situation is not up in the air.”
“He threw the ball pretty well. We’re pretty excited,” head coach Ron Rivera said after practice. “He didn’t drop back or anything like that. We feel really good about it and we’ll see how he feels tomorrow morning.”
Rivera said he does not plan to play starters in the preseason finale against the Steelers.
